Learners are on the move - studying travel just the ticket

TAKE off in a new career direction with a full-time travel and tourism course at West Lothian College.
There are a range of courses still available at the Livingston college — whether you’re a school leaver, someone returning to study, looking to land a better job or go onto university.
And, with 97 per cent of HN graduates at the college either getting jobs or going on to higher study,you’ll be right on course for an exciting future.
Preparation for travel and tourism is a new introductory course that will give students the practical knowledge and skills for work in the industry.
It covers holiday issues, travel destinations across Britain and Europe as well as a more in-depth look at Scottish tourism in the year of the Commonwealth Games. Students can also learn basic Spanish.
Another new course is HNC Construction Management, which focuses on the knowledge and skills required by a technician or site agent/manager in a construction supervisory, or management role. There is a technical content in the course where students will learn construction surveying, materials and technology.
Or there’s the chance to paint a brighter future working in fashion make-up. The HNC in Fashion Make-up is designed to give you the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to work in the industry or go on to further study, and includes learning about make-up artistry, skin care and eye treatments.
It’s ideal for those looking to work with a cosmetic company, modelling agency, with photographers or other businesses.
There’s also a chance to shop for a brighter future with the Introduction to Retail Course, aimed at helping people who want to work as a marketing assistant, sales adviser, customer service operative or retail assistant.
The HNC in Advertising and PR course will prepare those wanting jobs in advertising agencies, public relations consultancies and sales and marketing organisations.
West Lothian College Principal and Chief Executive Mhairi Laughlin said: “Our courses are geared to helping students into work and we have close ties with local businesses to ensure we teach the skills needed in today’s jobs market.
